Ways To Be More Present In Your Everyday Life
Being present and aware of little things in life is something I’m always striving to and I definitely think that you should too. Living in the moment and focusing on what’s truly important is one of the keys to have more fulfilled and happy life but also to grow as a person and learn about yourself and universe we live in.
“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.”
― Lao Tzu
DO ONE THING AT A TIME
Although multitasking can be beneficial in some aspects of your life but doing it too often can be harmful. It can pull you back from doing things right and actually taking your time to think about what you’re doing. If you think about it, while you multitask your energy get reduced as you give a little bit of it to every task you’re doing. However if you really dedicate your time to just one task at the moment you will immediately see that you’re working faster and actually better. You are present in that moment which makes a huge difference. So whenever you have few tasks that you need to start or finish, just focus on each task individually.
Try to really think only about what you’re currently doing. You’ll end up with more free time as you’re going to complete your tasks so much faster than you would by doing them all at once.
“Wherever you are be all there.” – Jim Elliot
TAKE DEEP BREATHES
In the business of everyday life we tend to forget to just stop for a moment and breathe. Although you may say that I’m silly and that you are breathing I need to ask you do you really? Breathing is much more than just the habit of our body to take oxygen from the air and give us life. If you know how to properly breathe you’ll feel much calmer and present. Whenever you feel all around the places take a few minutes to reconnect with your breathe. If you like to work out or do Yoga you know how important breathing is. So take a really deep breath, keep it for a few seconds and then breathe out. Do it for a few times until you feel calm and peaceful.
Focusing on your breath is really important for your overall health. It’s scientifically proven that it can help your well being, lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and much more.
“The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life.” – William Morris
PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
I already talked about mindfulness here on my blog and I want to talk about it again as I feel that it’s very important, now maybe even more than ever. Being mindful means being present in the moment and realizing what’s surrounding you. We are all mindful in some doses but to really be aware we need to practice it. When it comes to practicing mindfulness there is definitely something for everybody. You can mediate or do Yoga for just 10 minutes in the morning or evening to connect with your mind and body. Take a walk and really engage your senses.
Be aware of your thoughts and emotions, don’t push them down. Observe situations and people around you as it’ll give you a view of the society you live in and how you can grow in it. The reason why I love to practice mindfulness is because it’s so easy to do but so meaningful. You can adjust it to yourself and see what works best for you.
