Steps To Make Holidays Less Stressful

Admit it or not Christmas isn’t just fairy lights and hot chocolate. It can get quite stressful. I’m sure that the female gender will definitely agree as they tend to be the ones who take the leash when it comes to preparing everything for Christmas. If you’re younger than you need to know that having full table and presents underneath the Christmas tree didn’t magically end up there.

PLAN AHEAD
Planning is a key to happy and stress free life but at Christmas time it’s necessary for surviving. I’m sure you’ve all been there. One day it’s just November and you think as you have enough time for everything and the next minute it’s already week till Christmas. Writing down everything you need to do and buy for Christmas will give you a clear view of how many time it’ll take you to do all those things. Although we would all like to have the whole December just for organizing and planning for Christmas but that’s just not possible as you probably have tons of other things that you need to do.

Making separate lists for decorations, meals, desserts, gift shopping will make your life so much easier and save you a lot of time as you’ll already know what exactly you need. Whenever you think of something just write it down and have it on some visible space so you can always look at it and get the right perspective.

ASK FOR HELP
You can’t do it all! As much as I’m sure you’d like to sometimes it’s just not possible. There is many things you need to do for Christmas and if you are a perfectionist I’m sure that it’s not easy to admit it. Putting too much pressure and tasks on yourself will just lead for you to be nervous and tired which is definitely something you shouldn’t feel in the holiday season. There’s nothing wrong with asking for a little bit of help. It can actually be a great thing for you and your family as all of you will have a part in making this Christmas more special and festive. This will make the whole experience so much less stressful and actually fun.

Giving different tasks to each family member will bring your family closer and they’ll be able to actually see how much hard work it is to prepare everything and they’ll appreciate it. At the end you’ll all see the result of togetherness and how holidays can be a happy time for everybody.

BE MODERATE
It’s easy to get caught in the desire to make ten of different cakes and fifteen different meals. It’s never good to exaggerate with anything and that also goes for Christmas. You don’t need to buy the most tacky and expensive decorations and gifts to have an incredible Christmas. That especially applies when you’re not financially able to do it. I know that lot of people think that they failed if they can’t buy their family or friend’s presents that they really wanted but that shouldn’t be the case. We live in the time when consumerism is present all around us. Every ad on the TV or internet imposes the idea that you need that product in your life which leads to impulsive shopping. You need to realize that Christmas isn’t about material things and that you need to live after Christmas as well.

So buying unnecessary things just to show them on that one day is in my opinion silly. Christmas is about spending quality time with your family and friends. Talking with them and sharing that Christmas spirit we all love. Those memories and not the material things is something that is staying with us for much longer.

Do you have any tips?
Do you prepare everything by yourself or do you have help?
