It’s not easy when the image of you who others think you should be and the real you are in conflict. This is definitely harder when you are a teenager and you are still not quite sure who the real you are. It’s easy to get influenced by the wrong people. So how to stay true to yourself?
LOVE YOURSELF
The reason why it’s so easy for us to change despite our own believes is because we are not comfortable in our own skin and we don’t really know who we are. Only way you are going to be able to stay true to yourself and act like you usually would without pretending to be somebody else is when you truly start to appreciate who you are with all your imperfections. It all starts from self love and appreciation. This definitely isn’t easy to do when you constantly feel like you’re not good enough but trust me, although it takes time it’s so worthy when you get there.
It’s a journey that will probably last for your entire life but every step towards it will make you a confident and strong woman who knows what she wants in life and doesn’t need anybodies approval. Some of the way you can get to know yourself better is by writing it down. Take any kind of notebook you have and start writing. There are a lot of YouTube videos and blog posts about journaling but you can make your own rules. Writing what’s on your mind before you go to bed or immediately after you wake up will make you connect with your inner self on a such an important level.

DISCONNECT FROM THE VIRTUAL WORLD
Social media plays a big part in all of our lives, admit it or not. Sometimes we give it a role that it shouldn’t have and that is to control our lives. Today everybody can share their opinion and believes and that’s absolutely amazing in some terms. We are constantly bombarded with thousands of information’s almost every second and it’s easy to start to take other people’s thoughts and opinions as our own when in fact we really don’t actually believe in that. It’s just that it’s easier to think as the most of the people think and don’t check the facts first. This also goes for comparison.
We see all those beautiful photos that present the life of others and think that we are doing something wrong and that we should be the ones going to those amazing trips and live in those perfect homes. Social media gives as a false image of how our life and we should look like. We start to think that there is something wrong with us and that we need to change. When you notice that you are getting into that circle of doubt and jealousy just remember that the things you see on social media is not whole life of that person, it’s just a glimpse of it. Wanting to have a better life for yourself is great but don’t do it for the wrong reasons.

SAY WHAT YOU MEAN
Trying to please others and saying what you don’t mean is the worst thing that you can do for your self-esteem and mental health as well. Some people have stronger opinions on things then others but that doesn’t mean that your opinion isn’t important. Surrounding yourself with people that make you feel like your opinion isn’t worthy is just not good for you. You should always be able to say what you mean and what you believe in and others should respect it. Of course saying your opinion should always be respectful to others as well. If you disagree with something you should always say it even if the most of your friends don’t agree with you.
As Cinderella said: “Just because it’s what’s done doesn’t mean that it’s what should be done.” We are creatures that have intellect and we are able to share our thoughts and opinions with each others. Don’t be afraid to say no but also to say yes. For some people saying yes can be even harder than saying no. Stand up for yourself and your opinion but also learn to change it if you realize that it’s wrong. Not because other said that it’s wrong yet because you got a new perspective on it.
