I Quit Sugar for 30 Days & This Happened
Since I can remember, I’ve always had a sweet tooth. I really love chocolate and all different kind of sweets more than any other kind of food. That love became even bigger after I started to bake myself. Baking is something that I find very relaxing and it is one of the ways that I like to let my creativity out. Few months ago I realized that I eat too many sweets a day. I know that too much sugar is not good for your overall health and I knew that I needed to change that. I used to never go more than maybe two days without eating something sweet. So going more than 30 days without a sugar was quite a challenge.
I decided to quit any kind of sweetened drinks, desserts, pastries, etc. I only ate fruits because they contains natural sugar and vitamins that my body needs. Although I know that other foods have added sugar in them as well I tried to avoid as much of refined sugar as I could. I actually didn’t find it that hard to avoid sugar as I just started to be mindful and conscious about it. After I got rid of all the sweet from my place I just stopped buying them.
For someone that at some point ate chocolate bar a day, I thought that I would have much bigger cravings that I actually had. First week was a little bit tricky as I was used to always grab something sweet after lunch or as a snack. But after that I didn’t have any other problems with it. I definitely did see quite a few of positive changes that happened after I quit sugar.
MY SKIN GOT BETTER
I am very thankful that I don’t have big problems with my skin in general. I usually don’t get a lot of pimples, although I did noticed pimples appearing on certain areas when I would eat a lot of sweets. It would mainly be on my cheeks. I haven’t had a single pimple on my cheek since I started this “challenge”. Another thing that I noticed is that my skin didn’t get as oily as it used to. I didn’t need to put a lot of concealer or foundation to cover anything which surely helped with that as well. I realized that it is not enough to just take care of my skin from the outside, it is even more important to do so from the inside. If you are struggling with your skin and you are also a sweet tooth then try to avoid sweets for a little bit to see if it'll help your skin too.
BETTER MOOD
I used to have a lot of mood swings. I thought that it was just my hormones but after I’ve stopped eating sweets I realized that my mood stabilized. I did not look for sweets as an emotional support which is something I used to do a lot. When you eat something with a lot of sugar you get a quick boost of energy which then leaves your body making you feel tired. I haven’t had that at all, my energy level wasn’t oscillating and I had a much better night sleep. I was much calmer and didn't stress too much over things that I would usually stress about.
HEALTHIER CHOICES
I started to pay more attention to food that I eat. I drank more unsweetened tea and ate more vegetables. I also drank much more water than I usually did. Since quitting sugar and seeing all the benefits it had on my body and mind I unconsciously started to be more aware of the things I’m putting in my body and all the affects they have. I slowly build this new habit of mindful eating and listening what my body is saying to me. I had much more energy for other activities and started to practice Yoga and do cardio.
When I decided to quit sugar I never had in mind to quit it forever. I just wanted to see how my body and mind would react to stopping consuming it. I realized that I love sweets and chocolate and that I’ll never completely get rid of them from my life but I do know that I’m going to try and eat any food in moderation. This is mainly because I want to take care of my body and choose the best options for myself.
